Pride Month: Everyone Is Welcome at Kingston Kayak Club

June is Pride Month, which is a good opportunity to reflect on the importance of kindness, respect and inclusion in our Club and in the wider community.

At Kingston Kayak Club, we believe paddlesport should be for everyone. Our Club is open and welcoming to people of all backgrounds, ages, abilities, families and identities. Whether someone is completely new to paddling, returning after time away, competing, volunteering, coaching, supporting their child, or simply wanting to be part of a friendly community, they should feel that they belong.

For many people, Pride Month is a celebration. It is also a reminder that not everyone has always felt accepted or included, and that small actions can make a big difference. A warm welcome, respectful language, support for new members and a positive atmosphere all help people feel safe and valued.

Sport can be incredibly powerful. It builds confidence, friendships, resilience and a sense of achievement. But that only happens when people feel comfortable taking part as themselves.

As a family club, we want Kingston Kayak Club to be a place where children, young people, parents, carers, adult members, coaches, volunteers and visitors are treated with kindness, dignity and respect. Everyone should be able to enjoy paddlesport without feeling judged, excluded or unwelcome.

Being inclusive is not about making grand gestures. It is about the atmosphere we create every week: how we speak to each other, how we support new members, how we look after young people, and how we make sure everyone feels able to take part.

This Pride Month, we want to reaffirm a simple message:

You are welcome at Kingston Kayak Club.

Whether you are LGBTQ+, an ally, a parent, a young person, a volunteer, a coach, a beginner or an experienced paddler, there is a place for you here.

Kingston Kayak Club is proud to be a friendly, inclusive and respectful community — this month and every month.
