My name is Alex Lowthorpe, I am 17 years old and live in Kingston Upon Hull. I play canoe polo for my local club, Kingston Kayak Club. I have played at the highest level of British Canoe Polo across the UK and Europe. I have been selected to represent the Great British Under 21 Men in Essen next month.
My athletic dream is to be a member of the Great British Canoe Polo team that are crowned European and World Champions. I continually strive to achieve this through hard work and training.
I am running this campaign because in the UK Canoe Polo is not heavily funded, athletes training and playing for the GB Squads are required to part fund their participation in training and competitions, in addition the purchase of equipment .
This campaign is important to me as it will provide me with the opportunity to achieve my dream, and have the chance to become a European Champion as part of the Great British Squad
On a regular week I train 5 times a week. Training sessions can vary from weight and fitness training to Ball skills and tactical drills.
With the money raised I will be able to compete at this years Canoe Polo European Championships in Essen, Germany. This opportunity will cost me £300. This is addition to training weekends which costs between £60 and £80 per weekend, competitions which cost £80 per weekend and equipment:
Paddles £170 + per set, Boat £900 + ,Helmet and face guard £70+, Buoyancy Aid £100 +, and clothing £60 + per set
For the Great British Squad Bouyancy Aids are provided, the remainder of the equipment is self funded even though some companies provide discounts for Squad members.
Any contributions received will be very much appreciated, they will provide much needed support in helping me to achieve my goal.
I am willing to advertise any contributors details on some of my equipment, and send details of my progress, which can include photos.
